About Idea Blossoms

"Our opinions do not really blossom into fruition until we have expressed them to someone else."
Mark Twain.

Most of us do have our opinions, our ideas, our notions about things. Some of us share them readily; some of us tend to hold them back, reluctant to take stands, to risk offense, to risk perhaps the need to defend those opinions if circumstances demand. I am an English teacher and a writer, and I have lots of opinions, but I agree with Mr. Twain: they don't do much good if they remain in the dark, merely gathering mold.

If we have thoughts, if we have ideas, we must let them out into the sun where they might grow and blossom, where they might develop and flourish. We owe them that. And we owe ourselves that. Idea Blossoms is a blog about books, movies, and the arts, and opinions about them. It will undoubtedly take a long time for me to develop the blog, but my goal is to fill it with reviews of works that I have had some kind of reaction to so that I can add to the discourse about these works already out there.

In my favorite novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen said, "Laugh as much as you choose, but you will not laugh me out of my opinion." I hope that my thoughts may often provide a smile, and I hope that at least a lot of the time I actually intend for that to occur, but whether you agree or disagree with me the important thing is to get talking about the books, movies and other art that is out there.

Share your opinions too! Otherwise, they remain shriveled and unloved in the dank basement of your soul. Why not plant them in the sun and see what happens? :-)

Welcome to Idea Blossoms

Hi,

Welcome to my blog about the arts.  It's going to take a bit of time to get this thing off the ground.  I have other blogs--I'll put the public ones in my blogroll--but this one seems to be tougher to put together.  For one thing, I have a specific concept of what it needs to be (unlike any other blog I've ever put together) and so far I can't make it work.  For another, well, quite honestly, unlike my political blog or my random writing blog, I sort of hope there actually could be traffic on this one, so I'd like to get it right.

:-)

All of which leads me to wonder how long it will take before I am really up and running.  This "welcome" message goes live when I post it, but no one will really see it.  The blog will be online, but it is the proverbial tree falling in a forest with no one around: does it actually take up bandwidth of no one accesses it?

Doesn't matter.  There's nothing here to see, folks.  Move along.  Idea Blossoms is under construction.  But...

The random apostrophe in the cartoon notwithstanding, you get the message.

:-)

The blog will be up and running soon, and then we'll have some fun!

(It's not really going to be permanent, BTW!)
